Tom Collins

Andy Pearson

Andy says...

This cocktail is effectively an alcoholic homemade lemonade

This cocktail is said to have started out as a John Collins, after its creator, a former head waiter at Limmer's coffee shop on Conduit Street, London in the 19th century.  The name change is credited to a switch in ingredients, with Hollands gin being replaced by Old Tom gin.

How to make a Tom Collins cocktail at home

Ingredients

  • 45ml Gin
  • 25ml Fresh Lemon Juice
  • 15ml Sugar Syrup
  • Soda Water to your taste (Maximum 125ml)
  • Garnish - Lemon Wedge

Instructions

  • Pour all the ingredients into a glass
  • Pop the garnish in and you're done!

Andy's Top Tip - If you felt inclined to shake the ingredients and then top it with soda, you would in fact be making a Gin Fizz (so there!)
