One of the favourite drinks I ever made on BBC's Something for the Weekend

Created by Tom Buttery, Bartender at the Berkshire Hotel in London in 1930 and was the winner of an International competition that very same year.

How to make a Golden Dawn cocktail at home

Ingredients

  • 20ml Gin
  • 20ml Calvados
  • 20ml Apricot Liqueur (not apricot brandy)
  • 20ml Fresh Orange Juice
  • 5ml (Sink) Grenadine
  • Garnish - None

Instructions

  • Pour all the ingredients except the grenadine into a cocktail shaker
  • Fill with ice and shake
  • Fine strain into a chilled cocktail (martini) glass
  • Gently pour in the grenadine and watch as it sinks to the bottom of the glass giving the drink the colour of a golden sunrise
